Jerry Falwell Changing His Tune?

Not sure I actually buy it - but the HRC recently issued a "thank you" to the more-often-than-not-very-reverend Falwell early this month because of statements he made that hinted that he believes equal access to housing and employement are basic civil rights that should be offered to everyone. He went on to say this:
Civil rights for all Americans, black, white, red, yellow, the rich, poor, young, old, gay, straight, et cetera, is not a liberal or conservative value. It's an American value that I would think that we would pretty much all agree on.

Falwell also spoke earlier this summer at an Exodus conference - the twist is that he spoke very warmly about the group Soulforce. Soulforce is an activist group, founded by Mel White, that seeks to end the oppression that gays and lesbians feel from organized religion. It seems that in 2001 the Soulforce headquarters was moved across the street from Falwell's church in Lynchburg and the outreach (or lobbying) of Falwell began.

Sounds great if he puts his money where his mouth is. Of course this is the same man that blamed the 911 attacks on "the pagans, the abortionists, and the feminists and the gays and lesbians". I think his recent heart operation has him rethinking his strategy for getting through the pearly gates. Let's hope he's having, well, a change of heart. I'm not betting on it - hatemongers seldom change their cloak.

More Falwell news:

Let's see if he can keep his horns from sprouting out over this bit of news. He's thankfully and rightfully lost the fight to keep this site quiet.
