We made a design at Redd~Pepper and I offered to donate a portion of sales from any Roygear to Equality Alabama (the organization of Kathy's choice). Now - everyone needs to buy, buy, buy! We have thongs, mugs, shirts, clocks, buttons, magnets, stickers......you get the picture. I will keep everyone posted regarding the amount we raise and donate.

Which path is that, Mary?

* One that questions "professionally closeted" gays who work for a party that officially considers you a second-class citizen? Jeezus, you're in company with plenty of out gays who work for, support and vote for candidates in a party who are ready to legislate your relationship into legal limbo, the level of delusion is stomach-churning. Happy with that path?

* You couldn't find a way to choose a path that fights for the rights of everyday LGBT citizens, putting your personal mettle to the test to live openly, speak publicly, question those in authority, and distance yourself from a campaign that was demonizing you (instead of further lining your wallet)?

* If you had chosen a different path, what you could have been to the civil equality movement, given the opportunity presented to you by Dear Leader himself to publicly speak out in disagreement and quit the campaign.

I do freelance work - creative writing (not that you can tell by my posts!), web content - and people actually pay me. Senate backs bill on same-sex partnerships

The Senate has backed a bill on same-sex partnership approved by the Chamber of Deputies last month. On Thursday 45 of 65 senators present voted in favour of the bill, which will entitle gay couples to legal union, allowing access, for example, to a partner's medical information, or inheritance rights. Gay couples will also be able to raise children, although the bill does not allow them to adopt. Some opponents of the bill, notably the Christian Democrats who voted against, have criticised the legislation as "threatening" the standing of the traditional family. The bill must now be signed by the president to go into effect. If approved by the president, it will make the Czech Republic the 13th European country to recognise same-sex partnerships, as well as the first post-communist country to do so.

So - remind me again how progressive we are in the United States.

Maybe he didn't get his invitation? Scalia was playing tennis with the Federalists during the swearing-in of Chief Justice Roberts. Well, it was at the tony Ritz-Carlton in Bachelor Gulch, Colorado - how could he resist?

Scalia spent two nights at the luxury resort lecturing at the legal seminar where ABC News also found him on the tennis court, heading out for a fly-fishing expedition, and socializing with members of the Federalist Society, the conservative activist group that paid for the expenses of his trip.

At a press conference, almost two weeks later, Scalia was not inclined to tell reporters his whereabouts during Roberts' swearing-in.

"I was out of town with a commitment that I could not break, and that's what the public information office told you," he said.

It "doesn't matter what it was. It was a commitment that I couldn't break," Scalia continued when questioned further.

Phyllis Gates - the wife of Rock Hudson - died recently in California. One of my favorite sites - the Village Voice - is reporting that Ms. Gates was a lesbian. The scoop comes from biographer Bob Hoffler.

The author adds: "Phyllis had told various people that marrying Rock 'would be fun.' She then became addicted to being the wife of a star, and didn't want the divorce. MARK MILLER, [movie star] GEORGE NADER's lover, told me that she had a double standard: Phyllis could play around with women but Rock had to remain faithful to her. Not only has the Virginia House (Straight)Privileges & Elections Committee approved the state's anti-gay constitutional amendment (which threatens to prohibit same-sex marriage, domestic partner benefits and other protections for gay couples) but now there is a newly proposed bill that would prohibit medical professionals from assisting unmarried women from becoming pregnant using medical technology, including artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization. A new German documentary airing tonight claims that the Cuban secret service was behind the assassination of Pres. Kennedy.

The 90-minute film, titled Rendezvous with Death, features an interview with Oscar Marino, a former agent of the Cuban G2 secret service, who says he knew before the assassination in November 1963 that Lee Harvey Oswald - Kennedy's killer - had been picked by his colleagues to do the job.

"He offered to kill Kennedy, and we used him to do this," Mr Marino says during the film, made by Wilfried Huismann, a prize-winning German director. Mr Marino claims that Mr Oswald, a Communist who had lived in the Soviet Union for three years, was identified to Cuba by the Russian KGB secret service. (Financial Times)

After three decades as a beacon for lesbians across the region, Charis Books & More needs a significant increase in sales if it is to survive to reach its 32nd birthday next November, according to co-owners Linda Bryant and Sara Look.

In a widely disseminated Dec. 11 email, the staff for the SouthÂs oldest feminist bookstore asked the "Charis Community" if they still "want and need Charis to be here."

Owning and operating any business is hard on many levels. I'm amazed and joyous they've been in business 32 years. If you shop in or around Atlanta - help them out with a purchase or two. They are also looking at other options, including the possibility ofbecomingg a coffee house.

To survive, Look said Charis needs to raise sales by approximately 20 percent, as well as raising capital Â as much as $50,000, though she says the figure is approximate Â through donations or investors.

Combined with increased sales, an infusion of capital, from a donor or other source, could enable "transformations" at Charis ranging from a coffeehouse to ideas not even on the table yet, Bryant said.

Abrams and several other children's-magazine journalists, including Ranger Rick's Kristin Brittany and Cricket managing editor Shaina Belowitz, have testified before a federal grand jury on the source of the leak. Sources say that Randall Polk, Washington bureau chief for Weekly Reader, named Rove after serving eight days in jail for refusing to divulge his sources.

Seems some Hollywood trade papers are featuring new Brokeback Mountain advertisements today.

Perhaps to remind viewers (and voters) that there's more to director Ang Lee's film than its wrenching portrait of a gay relationship, a new "for your consideration" advertisement appeared in today's Hollywood trade papers. Where most of the ads to date have pictured Ledger and Gyllenhaal, this one covers all the bases by going for a distinctly familial, and thoroughly heterosexual, image: Jack Twist and his wife Lureen (Anne Hathaway) holding their newborn baby.

So - does this mean that we'll start seeing gay versions of movie posters to catch the eye of the movie-going queers? Doubt it.

Uh-oh. After being dissed by Ford it looks like the diversity lovin' group over at the AFA are setting their sites on Wal*Mart. Seems an internal memo has been leaking regarding a seminar being held tomorrow that is called "Why Market to Gay America?"

The memo, dated December 8, notes that America's homosexual community has $610 billion in purchasing power, and that the seminar -- sponsored by Wal-Mart's Office of Diversity -- will "provide insight into the purchasing decisions of GLBT [gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender] customers."

Sharp says Wal-Mart has long been seen as a shopping place that supports family values. But now, he says, that image is in question.

"Basically what they're doing is they're giving their stamp of approval on homosexuality, recognizing it as a facet in America that deserves their support and their encouragement," he says. "And they want their business."

Sharp is calling on family advocates to contact Wal-Mart headquarters at 1-800-WALMART and make their concerns known about Friday's pro-homosexual seminar.

Color me clueless. I didn't even know Wal*Mart had an Office of Diversity. What have they been working on? Putting Barbie next to Ken on the same shelf?

Delta Lambda Phi opens a chapter in Missouri. Delta Lambda Phi - founded in 1986 by three elderly men that wished such a fraternity existed in their formative years - is a social fraternity open to "gay, bisexual and open-minded gentlemen". This from Times Online - Christopher Robin is getting a sex change.

But what is most likely to anger longtime Milne devotees is the arrival of the “tomboyish girl” in the role usually played by Christopher Robin.

“We got raised eyebrows, even in-house, but the feeling was that these timeless characters really needed a breath of fresh air that only the introduction of someone new could provide,” Nancy Kanter, of the Disney Channel, told USA Today.

Disney says that the series will target preschool children. “The young character will elicit physical, cognitive and emotional responses from the viewing audience and will also address them directly,” said a spokesman.

Partners Dotti Berry and Roby Sapp are on a mission. They hit the road on Sept. 11 of this year on a personal crusade they've dubbed "Gay into Straight America". Their goal is simple - to engage middle America in conversations about marriage rights for gay people.

Berry said advocates of equality must spend their time working on what she calls the “moveable middle”, the percentage of the population willing to listen and change their views.

“We waste a lot of time and energy on the 10 percent of people who are against us and they will never be in our corner, but we can impact the middle,” she said.

Food for thought:

After they leave Houston, they couple and their dog will head to Columbus, Mo. , where one of their meetings include a session with a group of ministers who are supportive of gay rights, but want to know how to engage their congregations about this issue.

“They don’t want to loose their jobs, and I understand that,” Berry said. “Too often we ask more of others than we do of ourselves. We want them to speak out, but we aren’t, so we can keep our jobs and families.”

So - read the short story by Annie Proulx here. The New Yorker has dusted off their archives and posted this fabulous story for all to read.

Then, a bit of coverage by ABC News here and even a Boondocks cartoon.

And finally - the infamous "ex-gays" are chiming in. Why am I not surprised? This classic quote is from the Christian Communication Network and Straight Talk Radio:

"The Marlboro Man has succumbed to the homosexual agenda and John Wayne must be turning over in his grave," said Irene Bennett, co-host of Straight Talk Radio.

"This movie sends a very dangerous message to America's youth - and especially married couples with a struggling spouse. I just spoke with a married man on the telephone who is contemplating leaving his wife and children. He's says he's gay - and Brokeback Mountain has influenced his decision. I spent a lot of time with this man telling him it's not what they're making it out to be. I know - I was there for 11 years." Stephen continued, "Believe me, we can sadly expect to see a lot more men like former Governor Jim McGreevy of New Jersey not only resigning from their jobs, but from their wives, children and families."

Irene said, "They're talking about Oscar potential for this movie? I agree.

First, I give it a 'thumbs down' for its message. Second, I give it an Oscar for the number one homosexual propaganda movie of the year."

Stephen concluded, "In the end, don't be fooled. This movie is not a 'love story' at all. Ask the real wives, children and families whose lives have been destroyed, as they have 'lived' Brokeback Mountain. Personally, I would have made the movie from the wives' and children's perspective and appropriately called it Heartbreak Hotel."

President Bush is now in hot water because the White House holiday cards don't say "Christmas" - they merely wish people a happy holiday season. This from Joseph Farah, editor of the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily (or WingNutDaily as Pam aptly calls them).

William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights (whatever) seems to be the most outraged. Classice quotes you'll want to save - but be sure to give Donohue credit:

An AIDS fundraiser to be held at Boston College was abruptly canceled after the release of the Vatican's "instruction" manual on dealing with gays in the priesthood. BC is - of course - closely aligned with the Archdiocese of Boston. (365Gay.com)

The administration had originally given gay students permission to organize the "AIDS Benefit Gala, A Celebration of Diversity." The event was to have been held on December 9. Tickets had bee printed, and Veronica Joseph one of the student organizers told 365Gay.com there had been a lot of "positive buzz" on campus.

Then this little tidbit came to light.

Joseph said that in meetings with the GLBT Leadership Council, Dean for Student Development, Robert Sherwood, and Vice-President for Student Affairs Cheryl Presley cited an impending billion dollar fundraising drive in which the University would will seek the support of "older, more conservative alumni."

Shameful. I guess they could hold the fundraiser if the money was for cancer research?

When I Knew I Was Gay

In the past I've questioned Ophrah's possible homophobia - she just doesn't seem that comfortable to me around queers. Yes, she tries - but I'm not buying it - yet. Tomorrow her show will feature Amanda Jessen - an out lesbian that is a freshmen at the University of Califorina, Los Angeles. Amanda is a Point Foundation scholar - this organziation "provides financial support and mentoring to LGBT students who are marginalized due to their sexual orientation or gender identity".

Jessen was born and raised in Orange County, Calif., and after coming out to her mother, she was removed from the home that she had known for her entire life. The core of her senior year consisted of nomadic conditions, moving from her mother's to her grandmother's and finally settling in with her father.

Amanda has maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.12 while lettering in softball. As an out lesbian senior at her high school, Amanda worked to further gay rights and other progressive causes by helping solidify the first gay-straight alliance since her high school disbanded the group three years ago.

Note to Oprah: Please give me some sort of sign - don't be afraid to go there.

Baylor University has told a graduate, who served for five years on the advisory board for its business school, that his no longer welcome after learning that he is gay.

Tim Smith, a 1983 graduate, was one of 36 members of the Hankamer School of Business advisory panel.

In an interview with the Baylor Lariat, Smith says that since graduating from the Baptist school he has personally donated more than $65,000 to Baylor and raised and additional $60,000 to establish an academic scholarship.

A new asteroid is to be named after a transvestite gypsy folk singer from Bulgaria.

The asteroid, temporarily been called 2005 UT12, was spotted in the Taurus constellation by Bulgarian astronomers, with the help of scientists from Spain and the UK.

A spokesperson for the Bulgarian team said: "We want to name the asteroid after the folk singer Azis, who is quite famous here."

Azis is a controversial figure in the conservative country as he is openly homosexual, and a political campaigner for the rights of the minority Roma population.
